While Samantha Stosur has never talked about her sexuality in interviews, speculation among bloggers has often swirled around whether or not Samantha Stosur is a lesbian. While it's wholly inappropriate for sports writers to ask Samantha whether she prefers men or women, bloggers have pointed to her assocation with tennis coach Gigi Fernandez, who had an affair with fellow tennis player Conchita Martinez, as further evidence of her leanings.
Some of the more scandalous rumors insist that the women's doubles scene is filled with closeted lesbian couples, but obviously none of this can be confirmed. Confirmation is made more unlikely by the unfortunate reality that a real stigma and malicious stereotype still follows openly gay female athletes.
